I designed my first personal website in 2008 using basic HTML and CSS. Honestly it looked great to me then, but I know it sucked. But I didn’t stop. I kept on redesigning it and I was proud of that process.
Then in 2013 I came up with an idea of building a local news website, but I wondered how I could accomplish that using HTML. And I wanted a quicker way.
I called my friend Sabore – we had met on an online portal that taught Java Programming to young Africans, and had exchanged contacts then.
To cut the long story short, Sabore laughed me off when I told him about how I was looking for a quicker way to build the site. Then he told me, “Don’t complicate things bro, just use WordPress”
“You mean Microsoft Word?” I asked
“No. WordPress is an OpenSource Content Management System that you can use to build a blog, news website or a fully fledged website. And it’s so simple!” Sabore explained.
And that was the beginning of my discovery. I set out to learn WordPress as much as I could – from how to Install WordPress, picking and installing themes and plugins, making edits like CSS files, function.php and header.php files.
Since then, I have been building all my websites in WordPress. And I haven’t even thought of using another CMS. That’s because there are more than 10 reasons why I love WordPress as a web design platform.
If you are thinking about getting into web design, I suggest you start building your first website using WordPress. It is much easier than you think.
